About

Good for

  • studying Plato and ancient Greek thinkers
  • exploring the history of philosophy
  • following close readings of classical texts

This series explores the history of Ancient Greek philosophies, their critical study, and their enduring resonance. Most of the texts that preserve Greek thought were composing during a period of twelve centuries, from about the sixth century BCE to the sixth century CE; but they're rooted in earlier oral traditions of poetry and mythology, and their influence continues through later periods of history. I'm a teacher and researcher in the field of Ancient Greek philosophy. My primary area of study is the philosophy of the later ancient Mediterranean, particularly "Neoplatonic" thought in Greek sources. My doctoral research in Classics and ancient philosophy at the University of Oxford focused on logical education in the Roman Empire. You can find some of my papers and books Academia.edu, and more about me at my personal webpage. Thanks for visiting, and I hope you enjoy these ideas!
